About Atlantic Sciences

Atlantic Sciences LLC was founded in 2005 to commercialise optical coherent detection technology.  The company is owned and operated by Michael G. Taylor.

Dr. Taylor has 12 years’ experience in research and development of leading edge products in optical communications, with STC, Nortel and Ciena.  Between 2003 and 2007 he was a visiting senior lecturer at University College London and then worked with University of Central Florida.  He demonstrated for the first time how digital signal processing enables both optical coherent detection and the correction of signal impairments.  Since then coherent detection has been adopted as the standard for 100G long haul receivers, and the market size for coherent receiver line cards approaches $1B annually.  Dr. Taylor was a co-owner of Optametra, which introduced the coherent lightwave signal analyzer test equipment in 2009.  He continued working for Tektronix after they bought Optametra in 2011.

Dr. Taylor received a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Oxford University in 1987, and a PhD in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from University College London in 1990.
